Bosnia and Herzegovina – ENTER: CHANGE
(2024-2025)
Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is experiencing a severe brain drain, with young people emigrating at alarming rates. Since 1991, the country has seen a significant population decrease, with two million people emigrating from an initial population of five million. This exodus, particularly of the young and highly educated, poses a significant development challenge, as it undermines the country’s potential for progress. The primary reasons for this emigration include dissatisfaction with the quality of life, unfavorable socio-economic conditions, high youth unemployment, lack of quality public services, and high distrust in public institutions. Over 70% of young people in BiH believe systemic corruption is a significant issue, and politicians often exacerbate the problem with divisive, ethno-nationalist rhetoric instead of addressing these critical issues.
Enter: Change project aims to address these challenges by empowering the next generation of young Bosnian politicians.
The primary objectives of the project are:
– to provide young aspiring politicians with the necessary tools and skills to foster accountable, transparent, and inclusive democratic governance.
– to promote adopting European democratic principles within BiH’s political framework.
– to create a long-term impact by nurturing new political leadership that is committed to systemic change and BiH’s socio-economic development.
Enter Change project is based on the belief that empowering young politicians with the knowledge and skills to implement democratic governance can lead to significant, systemic change in BiH.
