The Psychology of Public Communication: Why Macro Strategy Requires Micro Insights
EDDE Virtual Lecture with Dr Michał Chmiel
Monday, 2 November 2026 | 14:00 CET | Online (Zoom)
The European Digital Diplomacy Exchange (EDDE) is pleased to invite you to its upcoming Virtual Lecture with Dr MichaÅ‚ Chmiel, Associate Professor of Psychology at Royal Holloway, University of London, exploring the essential role of psychology in understanding today’s increasingly complex public communication environment.
Effective public communication requires more than delivering the right message. It also requires understanding how people interpret information, develop trust and engage with the world around them.Â
With the growing influence of artificial intelligence, misinformation and digital platforms, traditional approaches to strategic communication face new challenges. Understanding the relationship between individual psychological processes and wider societal dynamics is therefore becoming increasingly important for communication professionals.
During this lecture, Dr Chmiel will explore how psychological insights can contribute to more thoughtful, inclusive and effective communication strategies. The session will introduce a relationship-based approach to strategic communication, highlighting the importance of trust, mutual understanding and meaningful engagement.
