Digitalisation and sustainable local development in North Macedonia
(2025)
Digitalization in the Republic of North Macedonia is recognized as a key factor for improving citizens’ quality of life, increasing public administration’s efficiency, and accelerating sustainable development. Local communities face significant challenges in digitalization, primarily due to limited technical, financial, and human resources. The project will enable the creation of a politically supported and consolidated national digital platform as a tool for the digitalization of local administration, i.e., the introduction of the “smart city” concept and the digitalization of municipal services. The project proposal, which will also include the necessary elements of technical feasibility, will allow the Ministry of Digital Transformation of North Macedonia to further secure donor funding for the implementation phase. The future digital infrastructure will enable municipalities to access advanced information technologies without introducing individually tailored, partial solutions. This will improve work processes and the transparency of municipal operations, while residents will be able to access municipal services more easily as they will be digitalized.
